"Being stuck in the house by government orders due to COVID-19 and having an Instagram food blog, I was seeing many different businesses popping up in and around my community which sparked my interest. I started to spend days and nights creating a business plan and my ideas started flowing. Then ta-da Oven.ily was born.
All has been well since I started back in July 2020. The most challenging time I’ve had since I started would definitely have to be Christmas 2020. I bit off more than I could chew. I was waking up at 5am each morning to freshly bake people’s cookies and wouldn’t make it to bed until 11pm sometimes 12am. I took on double the number of orders I did on a regular month so I could serve more of the community and spread Christmas cheer. However, the lack of rest took a toll on my mind and body causing a few unsuccessful batches of cookies. But with the help of my friends and family, I was still able to complete all my orders successfully.
Other than the minor setbacks, running your own business is an experience like no other. I enjoy calling all the shots. If I want to take a day off to have a self-care day, I can do it. If I want to make a meme post on the business Instagram page, I post one. Work doesn’t feel like work when you love what you are doing.
Since starting Oven.ily, my only regret has been not starting earlier. But now that I’ve started it's only up from here. In the next few years I can see Oven.ily expanding to produce more than just cookies so that we can appeal to a wider audience and serve more of the community while spreading love to all."
