From life guard to NYC Fire Fighter....Read Chris's Story.

"Growing up as a kid, I would have never thought I would see myself working as a firefighter but then again I’ve always hated working in an office or even indoors all the time. When I first turned 16 yrs old I started working as a lifeguard at Rockaway beach for the city and I loved it. Not just because I’m at the beach every day but I was able to help people and rescue them from the rough waters of Rockaway beach. Then after about 10 years working at the beach I took an EMT course, got certified as an EMT, and started working for the FDNY EMS. While working as an EMT I was given the opportunity to take the test to become a firefighter and I went with it not thinking anything. After about 4 years as an EMT  with the FDNY, I got my notice stating I was going to start the academy and 4 years later I’m here living a dream I couldn’t think of and I don’t regret a bit of it. Although it might sound simple and easy to do things it’s not. In life, you will hit obstacles and will have to face them head-on. There’s no going around things and hoping it goes away. If you have a dream or want to do something with yourself the only person that can help you is you. You cannot depend on anyone else but yourself. You have to find the will power in yourself to accomplish your goals, overcome those obstacles to make yourself happy. Look in the mirror and find the energy tell yourself you can do whatever you set your mind to. Become a LIFE SETTER for yourself and for the people who are just like you and look up to you. It all starts with you."
